Alexander McQueen Line to Show at London Fashion Week

LONDON — McQ, Alexander McQueen’s younger, more commercial line, is coming of age with plans for a flagship here and a runway show during London Fashion Week.

An announcement is expected today.

McQ, which offers men’s and women’s wear and accessories, will open its first stand-alone store in the spring at 14 Dover Street in London’s Mayfair. The store, in a Georgian town house, will span 2,948 square feet, and has been designed by Pod.

In August, WWD first reported the news that a McQ stand-alone store was set to open in the spring. Alexander McQueen took the McQ line in-house last year, and since then has been building it into a full, stand-alone collection.

For the first time, McQ will present the fall collection with a catwalk show during London Fashion Week in February as a preview to the store opening. The main Alexander McQueen collection will continue to show during Paris Fashion Week in March.

It’s no surprise that Karl Lagerfeld is a wealthy dude, but we may have underestimated the Kaiser’s wealth just a bit. He’s set to make $108 million..in just one year…from his men’s collection alone.
We rarely get the opportunity to peek into a designer’s finances, but with Lagerfeld (the men’s collection in question) extending its partnership with its licensing company, the staggering sales projections were released to the public. This wee bit of change is just a drop in the bucket. Lagerfeld also gets paychecks from Chanel, Fendi, and his myriad collaborations with the likes of Macy’s, that glassware company, that wine company, and the like (and we know how much money those can net).

The next year should prove to be an even bigger one for the desiger, whose masstige line is set to drop on Net-A-Porter in February and whose new women’s line Karl Lagerfeld Paris will roll out to stores in the fall. And this is why he can afford five townhouses on the same tony Paris street and a white gold iPad.
