Leila Shams Fall 2010 'Bad Luck' Lookbook

Are you superstitious? Scared of walking under ladders or having black cats cross your path? Then Leila Shams' latest collection is for you. Glittering with sequins and jewel encrusted details, Leila's Bad Luck collection is a phenomenally detailed, glamorous and beautiful body of work that weaves in motifs of black cats, broken mirrors, and the number 13.

Sorry, did I say the collection was for you, oh superstitious ones? Maybe you're thinking my logic is off. But that's the beauty of this collection. Not only is the theme a clever and well executed one, it's a chance to be rebellious and show your superstitions who's boss. And besides - cracked mirror print leggings are just too cool to ignore.

Jose Duran fierce, feminine: Spring/Summer 2010

Tim Burton. Fashion Designer?

The Tim Burton Exhibition at the Moma in New York is energetic, curious and memorable. Having enjoyed two visits and spent several hours wandering around, I keep thinking how transferable these themes are to fashion. The monochrome palette, the shocking blood red and the murky, misty grey tones COULD add a little eccentric drama to the catwalk.

Both Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue UK have explored the idea of Tim Burton as a muse. The Vogue shoot, in December 2008 toyed with the idea. It was an article aimed at exploring our imagination, with Burton and partner Helena Bonham Carter as models. The fantasy styling and monochrome fabrics are even apparent in these early shots.

Harper’s Bazaar went for an altogether different stance, using Halloween as the signature theme for Burton. They styled Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci and Alexander McQueen pieces to create sexy, disheveled beauty. This is along the lines of how I would envision a Burton Fashion Collection. A teaspoon of gothic, a dash of seduction and a splash of vibrant color. This is imperfect beauty, made attractive because it in different rather than in spite of it.

Top 10 Fresh Faces on the Runway

They may not be angels quite yet, but they're our favorite new faces of the season.

Marc Jacobs caused a mini-stir when he booked "real girls" and new faces for his Fall show, but the big story on the catwalks was the ascendancy of models who've lately spent more time in wings than high-fashion threads. Doutzen Kroes, Miranda Kerr, and Alessandra Ambrosio surprised onlookers at Prada, while Bar Refaeli and Adriana Lima added some curvy star power to Louis Vuitton. That said, it was something of a tough season for the newbies. Among the fresh faces who made the strongest impact: a pair of Argentineans, two girls from China, and, in what has to be a runway first, a set of twins from New Jersey.—Romney Leader

Naomi Campbell in wigs and leathers

Bringing back the stalwarts of the modelling world is all well and good... but I'm not so sure Vogue Russia April 2010 got it right with this shoot of Naomi Campbell. It's not Naomi so much; she still looks pretty darn good. I have somewhat high expectations of Steven Meisel too; but it's not quite the photography either. It's just that the styling comes off as a bit tacky. Fetish fashion, coloured wigs, and thigh high boots could work, but some of these shots are just missing the mark. There's also nothing particularly new or edgy about the use of nudity here.

The shot below of Naomi looking all future warrior is definitely my favourite of the lot, being to the softer side and with more elegant and on-trend styling.

Spring look | Polyvore.com

This look based is on spring. Citizens of Humanity Dylan Drop Rise Loose Fit Cropped Jeans paired with a cream floral corset top. creates an edgy yet soft look. Strappy neutral colored heels are the new trend for this season so I included these heels by L.A.M.B. Pearl earrings never say too much but say just enough. I also paired this outfit with this Roberto Cavalli cuff has a flower and Swarovski-crystal embellished frog.

The ultimate in leather corsetry

Wow. Beautiful shapes, intricate leather-work, and more current fashion trends than I care to name: Anticeptic Fashion have an Etsy store that should - if it doesn't already - cater to both the alternative and the mainstream fashioniser.
Though clearly able to be worn with a fetish twist, I can imagine some of these pieces also working in a more classic way, sort of like an Hermes or Ralph Lauren belt to the extreme. You could feminise some of these beautifully with floaty florals or shimmering metalics - or rock them up with skinny pants and killer boots.

Nudity and fashion: who needs clothes?

Move over sex, drugs, and rock and roll, here comes sex, nudity and fashion. Or, if I may: here it comes again + some.

You see fashion and sex have always gone hand in hand, but an utter lack of clothes used to promote clothing and accessories? Yes, sex sells, but it's not all marketing. Rather, some key factors have come into play in recent years; all of which have become distinctly prevalent in 2009 and will affect 2010 fashion greatly.
