She's already had enough tattoos to put a heavy metal rocker to shame, but Amy Winehouse's latest body etching appears to be her strangest yet. The troubled singer, 24, was spotted showing off an American eagle behind a stars-and-stripes ankh cross as she left her London home yesterday. As the king of birds, the eagle symbolises might and spiritual growth.

The Egyptian hieroglyph symbol of the ankh cross means eternal life and is a popular etching for many celebrities, including Dennis Rodman, Shaquille O'Neal and Erykah Badu. Winehouse decided to get the tattoo last month in a bid to boost her confidence as she struggles to overcome her drug troubles and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil's jailing.

It is believed Winehouse spent several hours under the needle at her favourite tattooist's parlour in Camden Town, North London. Earlier this month, Winehouse was forced to cover up her topless woman tattoo when she performed at the Grammys so as not to upset any prudish audiences. Instead of covering the busty lady with make-up, Winehouse drew a bra on her with black felt-tip pen.

Her mother Janis recently admitted she hated the tattoos and blamed the influence of Fielder-Civil, who has the word "Amy" tattooed behind his ear. Janis told the Sunday Mirror: "She'd never taken class As before she met Blake. And that's when the tattoos went bananas, too. That dreadful one saying 'Blake's' on her breast - I hate that.

"It was like when Amy got her Daddy's Girl tattoo. She asked me, 'Do you want me to get mummy tattooed, too?' I said, 'No, don't worry'. That's not my thing." Winehouse is currently receiving outpatient rehab treatment at the Capio Nightingale Clinic in North London.

Ralph Emerian, former jeweler to the stars sentenced to 6 yrs for fraud

A former jeweler to the stars was sentenced Friday to six years in federal prison for a $48 million fraud scheme.
Ralph Esmerian, 72, previoulsy pleaded guilty to ripping off creditors, hiding money and lying to a bankruptcy judge in order to save his business.
"I violated a code of ethics," Esmerian told a Manhattan Federal judge, referring to "this very private hell I've been living with every day."
"Words cannot convey to you how very remorseful I am."
Esmerian once owned the jewelry store Fred Leighton, which reportedly sold or loaned baubles to the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Tina Fey, Nicole Kidman, Sarah Jessica Parker and Meryl Streep.
After living a life of wealth and privilege, the tall, gray-haired jeweler's fall began after his jewelry store was robbed of more than $30 million in 2005, his lawyer said.
Esmerian was desperate "to hold on to the business that had been in his family for four generations," Patricia Pileggi said. "He very mistakenly thought he would be able to right this sinking ship."
He took out loans based on jewelry - such as a $10 million butterfly brooch - that were already pledged for collateral elsewhere.
He then lied to creditors and to a bankruptcy judge and tried to hid millions in a Swiss bank account before being arrested in November for bankruptcy fraud, wire fraud and concealing assets.
Esmerian faced as much as 10 years in prison but Judge Denise Cote cited Esmerian's years of good works and charity, especially the millions he donated to the American Folk Art Museum, in giving him a lighter sentence.
Esmerian, who wore a blue Mickey Mouse tie and a rumpled gray suit, has until Sept. 9 to surrender.
"Let's move on, let's move on," he said as he left the courthouse. "This has been hanging around my neck for five years."

I nearly passed out when I saw Tilda Swinton on the cover of W Magazine’s August issue.
The queen of androgyny sent shivers down my spine with her captivating editorial which was shot on a futuristic Icelandic landscape by photographer Tim Walker.
She graces the cover wearing a Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2011 silk velvet tuxedo and silk blouse designed by Creative Director Massimiliano Giornetti.
He captures Tilda wearing many looks including Blumarine, Céline, Chloé, Zero + Maria Cornejo and Comme des Garçons.
Tilda portrays an albino alien who fell to earth, reflecting W’s current fascination with androgyny and men’s uniforms.
In the issue Tilda talks about what it was like playing the mother of an evil child, androgyny and she shares what she really thinks about Hollywood.
