Kelis is a wildly creative and imaginative artist. I remember hearing “I hate you so much right now, “and thinking she was very passionate. (1999) "Caught Out There," was just one of the singles from the album“Kaleidoscope,” which was a classic album in my opinion. She's totally underrated. For a person who has a very eclectic voice, she has perfected her own style and carved out her own lane. I urge you to check out this album that is filled with those Neptune’s beats that we've all come to know and love. Back then, the Neptune’s were just baby planets and hadn’t yet risen to mega fame yet. The next album that caught my attention was “Tasty.” Kelis’ biggest hit to date is the song “Milkshake,” and every girl around my college campus paraded around chanting the famous chorus. (2003) Years later, while I was living in Japan, she released her third album “Kelis was here,” and the smash hit “Bossy.” (2006) She had a sassy, short haircut and looked like she had been doing lots of cardio and pilates. I chose Kelis as a style muse because she’s unafraid. I have seen Kelis dressed up like a unicorn, centaur, with a light blue afro and the list goes on. I tend to gravitate toward her calmer fashion choices because I’m not brave enough to dress up like a sexy unicorn. I would be the most akward, timid unicorn at the party. There is something to be said about being an individual. There is something to be learned from not allowing others opinions to dictate the way you dress, wear your hair and ultimately lead your life. Kelis is gorgeous but not in the traditional way that some women are. I don’t believe she would fit in the “classic beauty,” category and that’s why I like her. Her style doesn't seem forced or rehearsed. Cheers to continuous reinvention, artistic freedom and to the boss, Kelis.
