After years of attending fashion week as a stylist, Rachel Zoe found herself on the other side of the coin with her very own slot on the calendar this season. On Monday she staged her first presentation, 30 looks that she said were inspired by Brigitte Bardot when she was dating Serge Gainsbourg. That was clear in the sheer white tie-neck blouse and high-waisted palazzo pants (which Zoe was wearing in black), leopard prints and a vaguely retro khaki cargo coat and matching shorts, but at this point Zoe’s own look is probably as well known as Bardot’s. The gauzy Seventies dresses, jumpsuits and long, flared-leg trousers that are Zoe signatures were there, too, styled to a T with her shoe and bag collection. The skeptics out there were no doubt wondering if the world needs another celebrity-branded collection. Probably not, but Zoe’s clothes are just as good as — and, in many cases, better than — her competition’s. Stores want items that sell and Zoe’s got a name on her door that millions of loyal, fashion-loving viewers know.
