It all started a couple of months back when we spotted Scarlett Johansson and Rihanna sporting some seriously retro shades. Then at Paris Fashion Week, things started to get a little catty, and, no, we’re not talking about any unsavory front-row antics. It seems, instead, that the runways were morphing into a catwalk, quite literally. The collection at Givenchy was crawling with panthers, printed on pencil skirts and sweaters, while over at Jean Paul Gaultier, the theme was a little less obvious with touches of black patent leather here and there, culminating in Valérie Lemercier’s unexpected stripped-down closing look in a shimmering black catsuit. And the glasses! There was a spectacle of spectacles everywhere—from neon panther-plastered sunglasses to reading glasses—all in that increasingly familiar, oddly alluring, cat-eye silhouette. And since we know it takes about two minutes for a trend to translate from the runway to real life, we predict that as soon as the sun comes out this spring, you’ll be yearning for a pair of your own.
