After reading this article and speaking of this topic in my retailing and marketing class my eyes were completely opened up to the issues that the world has. Yeah we all may be sitting at home thinking "pray for japan" and "donate to japan" but have you even thought about how this disaster will affect the rest of the world?
If you think about it...where does most of our production/manufacturing come from? ....most Asian countries including Japan and China, with that being said, this earthquake that has affected Japan WILL affect the rest of the world.
1. Ports will not make money because less shipments will be made through the pacific ocean
2. fabrics such as silk which are mainly produced in Japan will be scarce
3. We will not only have to rely on manufactured fibers but will also have to do research on how to come up with another way to distribute product.
Below I have an excerpt from the NY Times article:
For instance, the Japan forecast shows that the radioactive plume will probably miss the agency’s monitoring stations at Midway and in the Hawaiian Islands but is likely to be detected in the Aleutians and at a monitoring station in Sacramento. via NY Times
We as people must begin to realize that the world is changing and we must either change or we will perish.
